TASMANIAN DELEGATION TO 13th WORLD HARP CONGRESS, HONG KONG 2017

TASMANIAN DELEGATION TO 13th WORLD HARP CONGRESS, HONG KONG 2017 - CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST BY COB Thursday 10 November 2016

Following our submission kindly supported by Katryna Tan, the Harp Society of Tasmania has been provisionally offered an opportunity to perform at the World Harp Congress in Hong Kong 2017.  The place has not been formally confirmed so is not yet definite.

This is an incredible opportunity for you to be part of a community ensemble as well as part of the international harp community. The HST attendance will provide a platform to debut the Harp Island Suite composed for the HST by
Jakez François.

The Harp Society of Tasmania is asking for expressions of interest to participate in the group. Closing date for EOIs is Thursday 10 November 2016.   In the event there are too few interested individuals, the offer of a performance spot at the WHC will be declined.

The details so far are:

Music:  ‘Harp Island Suite’ by Jakez François (two movements). The music is in E flat major and F major and is at an intermediate level.  The music will be made available on the HST website for your use or can be emailed to you directly.
Date of performance: Unknown, one performance only between date range of  7-13 July 2017
Instruments: Harps will be provided, unknown make, model or type
Location: Hong Kong.  All travel and accommodation arrangements and payments will need to be made in full by individuals – please do not make bookings until both the group and the performance are confirmed.
Rehearsals:  It is essential that the group present at a very high standard.  To keep practice sessions to a minimum (due to the geographic spread in Tasmania) participants will need to learn their parts before the first rehearsal (see important note below).
It is anticipated that the first group practice session will be held in early February. Further dates will be confirmed after formation of the group.
Who can join the delegation: Tasmanian harpists who are HST members
of all ages are welcome to join. There are no fees associated with being a part of the group.
Fundraising: There will be no HST financial assistance or group based fundraising for this trip.  Individuals are welcome to do their own fundraising for themselves

IMPORTANT: Individuals will be assigned to parts once the group make-up is confirmed; these will be made available on the HST website well in advance of the first rehearsal. Participants must be able to play their part in both movements of the Harp Island Suite at speed at the first rehearsal.  Music is permitted on stage – it is not a requirement that you learn the music from memory.

The purpose of the group rehearsals will be for putting the parts together and polishing the music.  Since the rehearsals will NOT be a time to learn your part, you must be completely prepared beforehand.  Anyone not meeting this requirement will unfortunately be unable to be included in the ensemble.

All arrangements regarding the selection of participants, administration and running of the group and the music will be conducted by the Harp Society of Tasmania Committee.

Please send your expression of interest or any queries to
secretary.harpsoctas@gmail.com by Thursday 10 November.

The World Harp Congress is an inclusive event for all forms of harp music styles from around the world and is for everyone who loves harp, not just for elite performers. Regardless of whether a Tasmanian delegation performs at the WHC, we encourage you to consider attending this wonderful event particularly as it is so close to Australia.
