About The Event

Registrations

Registrations are available for the 2024 Sheffield Folk Harp weekend. Early Bird Registrations are available until 31st October 2023 and full price registrations will be available until either the workshop is full or until Friday 12th January 2024. Please see registration form here.

It is expected that participants will bring their own harp, but if you are travelling or cannot bring your harp there may be some harps available to borrow or hire. This must be arranged in advance, contact Kate Fraser 0412 322 729.

A summary of the weekend

The workshop will run all day Saturday and Sunday morning, led by Andy Rigby with morning tea included. Andy Rigby will lead participants through a selection of tunes from his wide repertoire of Celtic, Latin American, Balkan and original music. Melodies will all be playable on lever harp and the workshop will include arrangement ideas for all sizes of harp and levels of proficiency. Full notation will be available and at times teaching will be done aurally. Selected pieces from the repertoire taught will be prepared for the concert on the Sunday afternoon. A good time is guaranteed. There will be a break after the morning workshop on the Sunday to allow the hall to be set up for the afternoon concert. Lunch options are to BYO, or pre-order lunch to be delivered. Pre-order forms will be sent out to people who have registered.

The Sunday afternoon concert is aimed to feature the weekend workshop ensemble group with some of the repertoire Andy has taught on the weekend. In addition, some tunes from Andy’s January 2022/23 workshops and previous Celtic themed harp gatherings will be included. Sheet music from previous workshops will be sent out in advance to people who have registered.

Optional Social Activities

A part of this weekend is the opportunity to meet and get to know other harp players from around Tasmania. There will be a group dinner booking at the Sheffield RSL (licensed venue) for Friday night 19th January for anyone who wishes to meet for dinner on the Friday night. On the Saturday night 20th January there will be a group dinner booking at The Blacksmith Café (BYO venue) in Sheffield. So now is the time to send in your registration and be sure to book your accommodation if you are not local to Sheffield. It is shaping up to be a fun weekend. Any general queries ring Kate Fraser 0412 322 729.
